Wouldn't this be a violation of his right to free speech? He was asked if he could perform the duties of opening the emergency exit and he said he would as long as it worked. I could see myself saying something like that since the plane had already been delayed due to a problematic exit door. I'm sure it was said with attitude and I understand the authority that plane captains have and need, but should they really have the authority to harass someone based simply on subjective feelings?
All of this is complete nonsense, I think it's becoming crazy (and I'm a pilot :) ). Don't they think that if someone was about to commit some terrorist act the last thing he would do would be making a joke that could make himself stand out?
Unfortunately those *!&$ islamic terrorists succeeded in one of their goals: making us paranoid.
The pilot made this wrong decision based upon the flight attendants recommendation (her telling of the non-incident). This is simply a case of a mostly powerless flight attendant (powerless in life) exerting what little control she has in life on her customers.
I'd be a little nutty too if I spent my entire life standing in mid-air. And when not standing in mid-air I was waiting for flight.
