I love the irony in these stories. What puzzles me the most about the gun-control debate is the following logic:

We train, test, and license vehicle drivers, even though vehicles are designed for transportation, not killing.

Firearms are designed for killing. Wouldn't it make sense to require training, testing, and licensing of them and their users too?

I don't favor banning guns. I do favor responsible use of them.

You have to take a gun safety course to get a hunting license in just about every state.

To carry concealed you have to take at the very least a several hour class, and most states require that you pass a shooting test. Along with a background check.

And yeah, that guy is an idiot. Holy crap. "Is it gonna fire?"

I always find "Accidentally shot himself to death", a humorous and odd phrase.

Not in Florida....surprise eh?

Rifles and Shotguns
•Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No

•Registration of rifles and shotguns? No

•Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No

•Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No

Handguns

•Permit to purchase handgun? No

•Registration of handguns? No

•Licensing of owners of handguns? No

You can obtain a hunting license in Fl over the phone or on line. No gun safety course required. You do need a permit to carry concealed, but no gun course needed.

It wasn't too long ago when they issued a carry permit to a guy that was legally blind.

Flori...DUH!

You know I actually did know that about Florida's hunting license, but it didn't click. I do know that you have to take a course in Texas.

Texas seems to be much more conscientuous about firearm safety. There you do have to take a class, then shoot, then get a background check for a concealed carry.

But yeah, nothing special to be a rifle or shotgun other than pass the background check (no rifles for illegal immigrants, those that have renounced U.S. citizenship, persons who are considered legally mentally unstable or have been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital, veterans with a dishonorable discharge and those who have unlawfully used or are addicted to illegal drugs, and felons) and be 18. For handguns it's 21.

And also, that may be, but cars kill magnitudes more people per year.

Yep, it's like the wild west down here as far as guns go.

Florida was the first place where I saw a sign at the entrance to a park that said "NO GUNS"

However due to local rule changes I believe you can bring them anywhere now.

Yeah, the idea was that you could now take them into national parks, but it's being contested.

Still can't take them into federal buildings, most hospitals, airports (past security anyways), schools, etc.
