The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks
The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks
You "know" you've seen them. Those "signs" where "people" misuse "quotation marks" in both "horrible" and "hilarious" ways.

Well, here's a "blog" that's "dedicated" to "them." picked by abandonedcouch 2 months ago

Thank "god", these are not "yet" common in German. We have the greengrocer's apostrophe instead, which is "almost" as annoying. German genitive doesn't require an apostrophe, and we seldomly use contractions in written language, so if you see an apostrophe in German, it's nonsense most of the time. One of my favorites is "Ladie's Night" (I took a photo of that years ago, but of course I can't find it now).

This is seriously my biggest grammar pet peeve ever.

The old office manager who I replaced always misused quotation marks for emphasis. Everything she's labeled from 2002 up until I took over is riddled with them.

I had to retype out all the fliers and order forms because they'd say things like 'You must "pre-pay" for all orders "over" "$100". There is also an "extra" charge for "outfit changes."'

If she needed to put extra emphasis on something, she'd put it in ""double quotation marks."" In one particular instance, there were 3 pairs of quotation marks. Raaar.

If this turns you on, look for its cousin, the blog of misused apostrophes.

Or the stories of the guys who travel the world correcting bad punctuation on signs. They had their own web site, but had to take it down after the government charged them with vandalism for correcting signs in national parks.
