Pigeon transfers data faster than e-mail
Pigeon transfers data faster than e-mail
A South African information technology company on Wednesday proved it was faster for them to transmit data with a carrier pigeon than to send it using Telkom , the country's leading internet service provider. picked by kakana 3 months ago

I can testify the truth to this. They don't only have rediculously slow internet, but the service sucks and the costs are even worse.

Almost every internet connection has only limited traffic, even for big companies. Here in Europe I have a better internet connection at home than my cousin who works for Telkom... And I pay less. And I have more traffic allowance!

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. —Tanenbaum, Andrew S. (1996).
And it's also great to see someone finally do something useful with RFC-1149.

It would've been even more impressive had they used bongo's though.

It wasn't an Email. It was 4Gb data.

On a 4mb adsl line 4Gb data will take longer than the 2 hours the bird took.

Where does it say that it was 4GB?

But it's about the statement they're trying to make. Say what you will, but the internet services in South Africa aren't close to what they should be in 2009...

I agree about Telkom services, but it was an unfair match from the start. I'm a 4Mb owner myself. So if it helps to improve broadband in our country - Great!
